Volunteers needed for
"JEB Stuart's Ride"
July 3, 2008
Adams County Land Conservancy
There is an opportunity for some volunteers and I'm wondering if the GCWRT would wish to participate? It is for "JEB Stuart's Ride" in the Hanover area, and of course the volunteers would receive badges or ribbons or something to identify them on that day.
This is for a fund raiser for the Adams County Land Conservancy, working with the owner of the farm where the event will take place. It will be on July 3, the day before all the other stuff going on in Gettysburg for anniversary days and reenactments. There will be a breakfast on that day at the farm, then the reenactment of Stuart's ride later in the day. I thought of the RT because it seems it might be a good fit. The farm owner is coordinating with tons of reenactors from all over the place, of course.

Politics and Personalities: The Wilderness Campaign, 1864
May 9-11
Friends of Wilderness Battlefield (FoWB)
Gordon Rhea, Clark “Bud” Hall and Greg Mertz will lead two days of battlefield tours. Civil War enthusiasts have the rare opportunity to share this experience with not one but all three of these nationally recognized Civil War historians during the May 9-11 Civil War conference sponsored by the Friends of Wilderness Battlefield (FoWB).The conference, “Politics and Personalities: The Wilderness Campaign, 1864” is headquartered in Culpeper, as was the Union Army of the Potomac in 1864.
Included in the three-day conference is a breakfast and lecture each morning at the Culpeper Best Western by historians Gordon Rhea, Clark B. Hall and Greg Mertz., and Chief Justice Frank Williams of the Rhode Island Supreme Court, a leading authority on Abraham Lincoln. Dr. John Simon of the Ulysses S. Grant Association in Illinois originally scheduled to speak on Friday morning has regrettably withdrawn due to unexpected complications involving recent surgery. The three lectures and two days of battlefield tours promise to be stimulating, informative and entertaining. Be sure to visit www.fowb.org today to view all the event information.
These scholars are in high demand and it is FoWB’s good fortune and now yours, to bring them together in one place on this special weekend to explore the intricacies of military leadership exemplified during the Wilderness Campaign. To those of you who have secured your seats, Congratulations. To those of you still pondering your decision to participate, wait no longer! Call or email Dale Brown at 540-972-9298 or DaleKBrown@verizon.com and reserve your seat today.
